I'm about done with Netflix

I don’t watch TV, and have no desire to do so. I guess that translates over to watching TV series online (and movies). When Netfilx increased their rate yet again a month or two ago (yet again, what ever happened to $6/mo?) I was considering cancelling, then sort of forgot. I thought this evening I’d like to watch a movie and relax while I have dinner (which is about the only time I watch stuff, usually via Youtube), but having gone through probably their entire catalog, nothing stood out to me.

I rarely use Amazon prime video (other than The Grand Tour when it’s “in season”), is it any better in terms of having anything worth watching?

I’m very close to cancelling Netflix and signing up for motor trend “on demand” which is cheaper and the sort of thing I’d like to watch; most of my youtube time is on that channel.

As far as movies go, I’d always choose Amazon over Netflix. Even for car stuff, Amazon has a bunch of cool films/series to choose from (Jay Leno’s Garage, Drive, multiple awesome documentaries).

Netflix can be good, but you have to have the time to watch the stuff they offer. Its mostly the shows that I enjoy. Stranger Things was very good, just to name one.

I’m about to switch Hulu. Mainly because Bob’s Burgers left Netflix

The BBC series Blue Planet 2 is good. Had that on today with the kids. When I started it up the boy (5 years old ) asked if we were going to watch animals kill each other. BBC has some other good animal stuff on there too.

We don’t watch many movies or TV shows, at all. If my siblings and parents didnt share and account, I wouldn’t pay for it.

Cut the cable last year - Netflix trying to entice me to get the DVD plan again (nope), Amazon Prime is great. Internet is $65/month here, but the lux fancy channel plan was nearly $200. So we’ve got HBO, Britbox, Shudder, and a few other channels, the TV bill is just over $100 a month.

Every time I visit my parents and their 300 channels of DirectTv, I realize how much more I like having Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu plus. Several lifetimes of great shows — just do some searches for sites that compile the “Best Of.” If you just fumble around the sites, you’ll find mostly garbage.

I did a list recently, but pay no attention.

Does anybody still use Netflix DVD? I’m surprised they haven’t just given up on that service at this point.

I’m glad Spotify started doing free Hulu for student accounts because it gives me somewhere to watch Futurama.

It’s still pretty popular in rural areas where internet speeds fast enough for streaming are crazy expensive.

I like Hulu. Personally I find Amazon’s movie catalog to be lagging pretty far behind Netflix and Hulu.

I normally cancel membership when there’s nothing interesting, and if I see a new shop I want to watch, I’ll start it up again

I am a bit tempted by Netflix DVD - instead of renting a movie for $2.99 on Amazon I’d get it in a few days for the price of a subscription. But I resist them, because I want them to be reduced to offering it to me for free for a few months, or for 2 bucks a year until the end of time. Then, maybe.

I wish I could get my wife to give up on TV; she’s an addict in need of serious intervention. I didn’t own a TV until I married her...

Between Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube, there’s practically nothing I would miss. Certainly not the garbage teenaged shows and trashy “reality” shows.

I have a small TV with my atari plugged in to it for the twice a year I actually dust that off, otherwise I’m in the same boat. I just don’t get the appeal. It may very well be an addiction, the way most people are with watching it.

There were a few things I wanted to watch, but having seen the series I wanted to watch and not seeing anything else listed that strikes my interest, it very well may be time to hang it up. If they put up something in the future, I suppose you’re right - can always sign back up if it’s worth the cost to watch it.

My sole experience with Hulu is a friend that had it, and I was blown away that a paid service still had ads in it.

Cable and satellite make you pay out the ass for 50% ads.

That’s true, but I consider online streaming more of a pay-per-view model. In any case, I don’t really aspire to pick up hulu

Prime has had some decent stuff on there. Some decent racing movies, and a handful of series to binge.
